Guest Appearance all the way from Evora Portugal

14th May   After two fantastic weeks sightseeing and cycling in Italy it has been great to get back to Portugal a country that captured my imagination during my Europe Cycle Tour in 2010. Portugal is a country with lovely people, great scenery and  (after Italy)a very laid back atmosphere. No one rushes; no one knows the meaning of the word urgent and generally is just a pleasure to be here. We high-tailed it from Lisbon to Evora last night and settled into what is a fantastic hostel. We both enjoyed a lamb roast at a restaurant last night before a BIG nights sleep after two weeks of activity, exhaustion has set in so it has been good to kick back in Evora for a day. This morning we toured the town and it was great to re-visit some of the sites from my bicycle tour ain 2010. Evora is a town jammed pack with history and would make a great base to see the wider Alenjto region over a couple of weeks or more. We now realize that we have not organised enough time in Portugal but that is the way it worked out. If nothing else it is a good excuse to come back in the future because we won't even be able to scratch the surface, there is so much to see.

Tomorrow we pick up our hire car and we have just finished mapping out our first two days which will take us to Serra Da Estrela  and Serra De Sao Mamede national parks. We will be going via heaps of what sounds like fantastic little villages with oodles of history.

I hope everyone has been enjoying Rachel’s efforts at writing the blog and I have even enjoyed reading them as there has been a number of nights where she stayed up way to late writing the blog with the weight of public pressure on her shoulders to have it written.

    Lovely, kovely ,lovely!!! Yes, maybe you should have spent a few days more in Portugal and a few less in le dordogne. But never mind, it is all good. Good to see that the weather is nice. It will probably a bit less in France, although even Holland seems to have good weather at the moment.

    Hi Guys,
    I can't believe 2 weeks have gone already, you won't know yourselves having a car, it will feel like real luxury. I remember now how much you enjoyed Portugal Gary, I am glad you still feel the same on the next visit.
    Kirst is having her engagement party this Friday night, which has put us all in a bit of a spin, as you know we leave to go away next week, and haven't even started to think about packing yet - I know I can hear you Gary Don't pack to much!!
    In between all this we decided to get our ensuite redone while we are away, so in between everything else we are picking tiles, vanities, taps, showers etc, Ash's good friend Tim is doing it for us. Plus obviously we have to get everything upto date at work before we go.
