Sunday 13th May and we arrived safely in Evora, Portugal. It has been a long day but it went like clockwork. We got up at 5am to get ready and book a taxi to the airport which was near the coast from Rome, it was about a 25 minute very fast drive to the airport. Rome was very quite at this time and there was a large red sun rising at the time quite stunning. The flight from Rome to Lisbon was nearly 3 hours. With only one bag allowed as hand luggage we had things stuffed into every pocket of our jackets but we now know the system for our next two flights to come. We had a good flight and needless to say we both slept at this time of the morning. From Lisbon we had to get a bus to Evora which was another 1.5 hours travel but there happened to be a bus waiting and there was no time to get any food or water which a pity was because we just had to run for it and hope for the best. Well the bus had no air conditioning so we kept stripping down our layers of clothes as we were overdressed to fit out luggage into one small hand luggage bag.  We were not sure how often these busses ran but we didn’t want to miss the one we took so by the time we arrived in Evora we had been on the move for 8 hours with no food or water, needless to say I was feeling a little drained. The next stage was to find the hostel and from the bus station, it was only about 10 minutes walking up a cobblestone road with the wheels of our bags clanging along making enough noise to wake up the whole town that was obviously having a siesta on a quiet Sunday afternoon.  Well exhausted with no map I just happened to look up at a name when Gary said “Where do you think it is?” I said “Here” It was amazing. So from the town square we trampled up two flights of large marble steps to find our friendly host Nelson who runs the Hostel. It is amazing and very quiet this time of the year. We have our own room with bathroom across the hall, a fully equipped kitchen and best of all it has a balcony overlooking the old village. We are in the historical square that is full of medieval streets, buildings and churches and history that dates back from the Roman times again.   We took just a few snap shots to show you our view and tomorrow is our day of adventure. We have two nights here before we get our hire car to drive around the mountains for the next four days.  So until then love to all. We just bought some sheep cheese, chips and salami to drink down with white wine until we find a little restaurant for dinner.  Cheers, until next blog love Chel and Gary xx
