Finally in Rome!

Friday 11th and Saturday12th

Well the cycling trip has finished and we all ended up safely in Rome, it was a fantastic trip 300 km approximately in cycling and another 120 km by train as the first and last 60km were too busy to cycle.  We all had a great farewell dinner and lots of laughs as by this stage we had all bonded with the Germans and English speaking people in our group all together there were 17 of us.  Today was a big day too as we had a 4 hour guided tour around Rome and then for the rest of the day we did our own thing after saying our last goodbyes to the biking group. We had a lovely lunch in a restaurant which served gluten free pasta and Corona Beer to Gary and I had a huge pizza all to myself.  After being given a good general explanation of the fantastic wonders of the city we had time to go back to the one that most interested us and it was the Colosseum. We have so many pictures inside and out but I will only post a few tonight as tomorrow we are flying off to Portugal and leaving the hotel at 6am in the morning and I am dead on my feet. Rome is so busy but awesome and it quite surreal being here, we both want to watch the Gladiators now to see how realistic the movie is and what it would have been like in the Roman times now having been inside the actual building and being held in awe by the architecture and the mere presence of it!  We land in Lisbon in Portugal tomorrow and have to take a train to Evora which is outside the city where we will relax for a day or so before getting our hire car to drive around the Spanish side of the country mainly in the more remote parts of the mountains. Hopefully you will hear from us in the next day or so.  Love to all Chel and Gary xx
